Is It Safe To Consume Milk And Eggs Together? Expert Shares Insights
Two of the most widely consumed protein sources include milk and eggs, which are also staples during breakfast. Intentionally or intentionally, many people end up having the two together—perhaps as a morning routine including scrambled eggs with a glass of milk, or maybe a protein shake with a combination of milk and a protein powder derived from eggs. Even baked goods incorporate these two ingredients.
While many believe it helps increase their protein intake, some wonder whether it is safe to have the two together. To clear the air, we spoke to Veena V, Dietician, Aster Women and Children Hospital, Whitefield, Bengaluru.
Milk And Eggs Are Good Source Of Protein And Other Nutrients

Both milk and eggs are packed with protein.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 249 grams of whole cow's milk with 3.25% fat provide 8.14 grams of protein, whereas a medium-sized egg contains 5.54 grams of protein.
However, according to Veena, milk and eggs offer a wide range of essential nutrients, apart from protein.
“They are rich sources of vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, riboflavin, and phosphorus, which support bone health, muscle function, and overall well-being,” she says.
Milk contains casein protein, which gives the dairy product its white colour. Cow's milk comprises around 80% casein protein, which helps increase the absorption of minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, according to a study published in the Journal of Dairy Science.
On the other hand, protein in eggs is said to decrease malnutrition, improve muscle health, increase satiety, and therefore contribute to weight loss, as per a 2022 study published in the journal Nutrients.
